La Palma is located in the Northwest of the Canary Islands. Due to its lush greenery and it outstanding natural beauty it is also nicknamed as the “Isla Bonita” (the pretty island) or the “Isla Verde” (The green island).

One of the main attractions of the island is the contrast between its small surface area and its high mountains. The Roque de los Muchachos (at an altitude of 2426 metres above the sea level) is the highest but most of the mountains are over 2000 metres.

La Palma, like the rest of the Canary Islands and the islands belonging to the Macaronesian area, is volcanic in origin. However, it is easily the lushest because it has the most water. What is more, it is the only Canary island with small rivers.
